We know you’ve been dying to learn more about the gorgeous faces of Browncoats Burlesque, so starting tonight, we’ll be posting interviews highlighting our talented performers.
If you have any further questions for the person featured, feel free to post your queries below! We want you to get to know us!
First in this series will be our Webmistress and favourite Time Lady:
So tell us, how did you get into burlesque?
Well, I was a theatre nerd all through high school and university (musical theatre specifically), but hadn’t performed since I graduated. When I learned that geek burlesque was a thing, I saw it as an opportunity to get back on stage!
Over the few years I’ve been performing, I’vegained confidence, made amazing friends, and generally feel better about myself. So really, nerdlesque drew me in, but the amazingness of the whole burlesque community kept me from wanting to leave.
Why did you choose Browncoats Burlesque?
Well, considering that they’re Ottawa bestest Nerdlesque troupe, how could I choose otherwise? Especially since I’m a HUGE Firefly/Serenity fan – my audition routine (and subsequently the first one I performed) was an homage to Zoe from the series. Also, their home stage at Zaphod Beeblebrox: The Nightclub at the Edge of The Universe. HOW COOL IS THAT?!?
Do I even need to guess what inspired your stage name?
Obviously, my name is drawn from Doctor Who (who comes from the planet Gallifrey), but I also wanted something that sounded super classy, which is where the “Lady” part came from.
Am I actually as classy as my name suggests? I like to think so. 😉
So you’ve been performing a few years now, do you have a favourite routine?
By far, my favourite routine is “My Strongest Suit” which I perform as Rarity from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic:
It’s everything I love in an act: musical theatre, lip sync, over the top characterization, a great mix of fun, flirty and sexy, and a costume that makes me feel like a million credits.
This is a troupe full of geeks, so tell me, what are your geeky fandoms?
Oh man, there are so many… Mass Effect would be #1, for sure. Followed by (in no particular order) Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Firefly/Serenity, Game of Thrones, Saga, Dragon Age, Star Wars…The list goes on….
In general, I really love sci-fi. Unless it’s especially horrendously done, it almost always gives me something to think about regarding the future of humanity or the potential for intelligent life beyond Earth. The possibilities are endless!
Do cats count as a fandom? I also love cats. Especially my own cats. 😛
If you could meet any character from your fandoms, who would it be?
Definitely Garrus Vakarian from Mass Effect. He’s the perfectly swoon-worthy combination of badass and idealist, and he’s just so adorkably charming. And the way the voice actor draws out his vowels when he speaks…*melt*
Although, I guess in a way, I’ve kinda met him – at least, I was part of a Mass Effect cosplay team-up with MNC Props, who does a fantastic Garrus:
Wow, so burlesque is not your only creative nerdy outlet? You cosplay as well?
I do! I LOVE Cosplay. It’s the only thing I love to do more than burlesque, ha ha! You can check out my page, Chaos Maiden Cosplay, for more cosplay goodness!
Alright, lightning Round:
-Xbox or Playstation? Xbox – I have both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One
-Rebel Alliance or Galactic Empire? Rebel Alliance! I can recite the Jedi Code on command…
-Pokemon or Digimon? Pokemon – just because Team Rocket is hilarious.
-Dungeons or Dragons? DRAGONS!
-Romulan Ale or Bloodwine? Bloodwine. It sounds more badass.
-Tits or ass? Tits
-Favourite Doctor? Eleventh – I love me some Matt Smith!
-Is Pluto a planet? IT WILL ALWAYS BE A PLANET
-Who shot first? Han. Why are you even asking?
And finally, can you give us a hint about your next nerdlesque routine?
Weeeeeeelllllllllllll, nothing is set in stone, but you may see some Mass Effect and Battlestar Galactica routines in my future. 😉
Fantastic! Well, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Do you have any last words?
